Fundraising history

I have been fundraising since 2012 when I first took up running when I ran a local 10k for Age UK and was subsequently hit by the running for charity bug.

Later that year I ran my first half marathon at the Great North Run while fundraising for Clic Sargent a charity that helped children with cancer.

In 2013 I went on to my first marathon in Edinburgh and I fundraised for Mind the mental health charity and in memory of a close friend who had sadly passed away.

In 2014 I continued fundraising for Mind and also later that year set up my own yearly seaside themed charity run called the Seaside24 which fundraises for various charities each year that it is on. So far it has been on for 3 years in a row.

In 2015 I set up a charity running group on Facebook called Run or Cake which allowed me to use a unique on going format to raise money for our five charities Mind, THHN, Alder Hey, Clare House and MAMA Academy using the members from the group and a unique forfeit system that makes the runners in the group pay a small forfeit to our fundraising page every time they miss a run they pledged to do that week. We are still going strong and have so far raised over £6000 for our five charities.

In 2016 I fundraised for the PSP Association by running three mountain/hill marathons in 6 months, despite saying I was taking a back seat from personally running for charity due to ongoing issues with my knees. The idea was the facebook charity running group would be my sole emphasis along with the Seaside24 charity running event later in the year.

Now 2017 and the Run or Cake charity fundraising group is still going strong and now in it's 3rd year.

Obviously in June 2017 I was faced with the untimely passing of my Mum, and the best way I could think of dealing with this was burying my head even deeper into my fundraising.

Within a week a new charity fundraiser dedicated to my Mum was set up titled WWMD - What would Mum do?...  This was and now indeed is an ongoing fundraising legacy in honour of my Mum with an emphasis on 'fundraising and helping others' as my Mum spent her life following God and looking after his flock by helping those around her, always putting everybody else first.

With WWMD I have done several charity challenges already in 2017 including the Snowdonia marathon in October raising funds for Lupus UK and Anxiety UK, two conditions my Mum suffered from. I am still fundraising via WWMD as it is an ongoing fundraising project in Mums name.

Ultimately the 'Return to Snowdon' is my next fundraising journey running alongside WWMD.  The 50 mile Snowdon Ultra or The 100+ mile journey on foot to Snowdon and the subsequent walking/climbing of it will hopefully raise some valuable funds for a good charity cause.
